On this page you will find a brief explanation on how “Russkoe TV free” CD works.

First of all, what is needed in order to have an enjoyable viewing and listening experience?

Of course, a good Internet connection is necessary. The desired speed should not be less than 1 Mbps. Slow connection speed could possible cause distortion of the picture, sound and collapsing of the images into components. It could also slow down process of connecting the Windows Media Player to the source of broadcasting (long buffering), and sometimes reflects in complete inability to connect to the live television stream. It is strongly recommended to check the connection speed of your computer to the Internet before ordering the CD. Old telephone and cable transmission lines and/or settings of your computer are contributing factors in the slow down process as well. Check your connection speed online by using special Internet speedometers. For example, Speedtest.net located at http://www.speedtest.net/index.php . If you decide to buy a CD regardless of the speed of your connection to the Internet, you can find several television stations with low speed image transfer mode from CD’s channel list. It is possible to view broadcasts of these channels, as well as listen to the radio with Dial - up connection.

The next and last condition is to have properly installed Windows Media Player (WMP) on your computer. The CD has been tested with three latest versions of WMP 9, 10, 11. However, if for any reason, WMP is not installed on your computer, you might need to download it yourself. Download WMP for free from official Microsoft site: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/AllDownloads.aspx?displang=en&qstechnology=The WMP’s version has to correspond to the operating system installed on your computer.

You need to do the following:

  • Assign WMP as your default player to play streaming Windows media files. Otherwise, the operating system will be asking which video player to choose for playing live online media files. Remember, “Russkoe TV free” CD can only work with Windows Media Player.
  • Open the Windows Media Player. Click “Tools” in the upper left-hand menu. In “Tools” click “Options”. In the dialog box mark “Connect to the Internet”, then “Download codecs automatically”.
  • Check the “Keep the Player on top of other windows” button, if you want to view broadcasts simultaneously with the other actions on the computer.
  • Every box for “File Types” should be checked.

All described above actions are likely to have been done on your computer and are mentioned here only for cases when CD is unable to connect to the media. In most cases, however, it is simply enough to install the CD into CD/DVD Rom. Data stored on the CD, automatically appears on your PC’s monitor screen. Follow the instructions on the screen, choose the first group of the channels, and then click on the channel you want to watch or listen to. The CD will connect your PC to live stream in WMP. Click on the logo of the channel and it will open its official Web page on the Internet.

CD works with Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7. Information on the CD is recorded in Russian. CD works with Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. Each CD is tested with anti-virus programs AVG and Norton.

When working with the disk you should remember the following:

CD will start calling WMP automatically, but it does not mean that the broadcasting of streaming media files will appear on the screen right away. It could take between 10 and 40 seconds to connect your computer to the broadcasting station. If the connection fails, repeat the call, or wait a few minutes.

Because of the following reasons connection could not happen, and you may not be able to watch the chosen channel:
  • The station is off line. Not all stations are working 24/7;
  • The station changed its URL address of a stream;
  • The channel is overloaded , you need try the channel later;
  • The server station is defective or stopped for maintenance work;
  • Your computer's security settings prohibit the running live TV flow of active content.

The references to WEB addresses and streaming media are recorded on the CD. URLs are checked before each shipment to make necessary changes. We do not bear responsibility if transmission Internet station has changed its URL address or started to use different (other that Windows Media Player) player.

Technologies of the transfer of the television images on the Internet have been dramatically improved for the past recent years and the quality of live online broadcast is very sufficient. Internet television has a wonderful future!
